The OPTI-6100 SMX chassis is a platform for the OC-3/12/48 SONET Optical Multiplexer. The chassis provides two high-speed (HS) slots for terminating fiber circuits of up to OC-48 rate, and four mid-speed (MS) slots for delivering DS3/EC1, DS1, OC-3/12, and Ethernet.

Champ connections for 28 DSX-1 circuits on backplane
BNC connectors for six DS3 or STS-1 circuits on backplane
Requires one System Controller Module (SCM)
Accomodates 1–2 optical multiplexer (OMM) modules in the HS slots, and 1–4 tributary modules in the MS slots
Front-access fiber connections to OMM and tributary modules
RJ-45 Ethernet management interface on backplane
DB-25 X.25/Admin port interface on backplane
Wire wrap pins for RS-485 interface, alarms, BITS clock, etc.
